The Fondazione Versiliana is warming up for the 39th edition of its Festival.
Already close to 20 dates have been set on the calendar of performances taking place throughout July and August in the evocative open-air theatre of the Versiliana: major names in music, comedy, musical theatre and dance and prose companies are on tap.
Among the big musical names are Fabrizio Moro, winner of the Sanremo Festival, who will perform in Versiliana on August 13; Antonello Venditti, August 16; Patty Pravo, August 20; and Ornella Vanoni, August 21. On July 26, the American pianist and singer Peter Cincotti will take the stage.
Beppe Grillo will return to Versiliana on August 23. Paolo Ruffini, with his “Pinocchio,” will perform on August 1, followed by Vittorio Sgarbi on August 2. Following Versiliana tradition, there will also be plenty of space for storytelling with Federico Buffa, one of Italy’s most original storytellers, who will present his show “Il rigore che non c’era” on July 14.
Alessandro Haber will take the stage on July 22; Roberto Farnesi on July 20; and Andrea Buscemi will perform on July 25 with “Memorie di un pazzo,” as well as on August 25 with “The Merchant of Venice” (Italian version).
The performance “Don Chisciotte della Mancia” by Enrico Lo Verso is scheduled for August 24. Dance will also figure into the programming, with some of the most important international companies, including Ballet Flamenco Espanol, center stage on July 21, and the Saint Petersburg Ballet on August 3, with the great classic “Swan Lake.”
Local Versiliana dance talents will also get their time on stage: the Keos Dance Project company with Emanuele Giannelli (July 31) and Emox Ballet. The latter will take advantage of a special collaboration with the great and magnetic cinema and TV star Giancarlo Giannini in a show dedicated to the characters of Puccini and D’Annunzio. And as for musical theatre—the type of show that’s perhaps most beloved among the Versiliana audience—there will be a large-scale production of Jesus Christ Superstar put on by Massimo Romeo Piparo, scheduled for two consecutive dates, August 8 and 9.
